About
The Apeiron Society For The Practice of Philosophy is a non-profit Society founded in 1987 by Petra von Morstein, formerly Professor of Philosophy at the University of Calgary and now Professor Emerita, who served as President until 2003. The Apeiron Society of Calgary is beginning its 38th year!
The Apeiron Society is a public forum for the exploration of philosophical ideas and methods in the context of actual life issues. Its main activities comprise bi-monthly seminars and group discussions featuring invited speakers. Annual seasons typically begin in early September and conclude in early May with a week-end symposium at Kananaskis.
Participation in the activities of the Apeiron Society does not require any specialization or academic background. Members and non-members alike are welcome to attend meetings. Meetings are held in-person at the Scandinavian Centre, 739 – 20th Ave NW, Calgary.
Speakers come from a variety of disciplines besides Philosophy, including: Art, Biomedical Ethics, Literature, Mathematics, Religious Studies, Sociology, Political Science, and Psychology.
Activities of the Apeiron Society are organized by a Board of Directors consisting of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, and a Treasurer. The Apeiron Society is a unique feature of the cultural life of Calgary and Alberta.
